Cook Building, in collaboration with Walter Brooke and Associates, CPR Engineers, and Trinamic Consultants, recently delivered a refurbishment project for St Joseph’s School, Kingswood. Originally a c.1914 parish of solid brick, the building was reclaimed to create x3 General Learning Areas, a Library, Music Rooms, a new Reception space, and additionally a revamped courtyard fit with a custom-made arbour.

Working with old existing buildings, with no documentation on their original structure, the Cook Building team were faced with the challenge of determining the best methodology for structural demolition works, as well as joining the existing buildings together. As a result, works were managed in different stages, each monitored closely in order to maintain program and a high standard of safety.

Because works were to begin while school was operational, an extensive risk assessment was completed prior to project commencement. The team ensured appropriate controls were in place, and took great care in maintaining a high standard of safety measures to mitigate potential hazards to student and staff.
