The Pickled Duck is a contemporary dining bistro utilising traditional materials in the form of recycled bricks and timber, and incorporates a bar and dining area, a drive through bottle-shop and a wine tasting area. The project involved the complete structural demolition of a circa 1992 building that was in a dilapidated state and undertaking a structural separation to a circa 1900 old hall.

The new building was constructed to integrate with the old hall, involving tying in structural elements and integrating the façade to complement the traditional building, which has an original mud mortar façade. The services to the new development are linked to the adjacent Modbury Plaza hotel and involved trenching across the existing carpark to enable connections. A range of materials were used to complement a high end architectural finish and these ranged from recycled oak timber cladding, recycled brick piers, and cypress pin timber battens, which were direct fixed to a black painted plasterboard ceiling.

The project was delivered in an accelerated time-frame to achieve the required completion milestone and was constructed to an exceptionally high quality standard.
