In 2020, Cook Building was engaged by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport for the redevelopment project at Mount Compass Area School. Among the upgrades is a new Administration building with several staff offices, meeting rooms, a staff kitchen, storage areas and amenities.

The school’s library, Health & Wellbeing Clinic, Home Economics classrooms, canteen, teacher preparation and storage areas are housed in the new Resource Centre, while a new Technology & Art building provides large functional learning spaces for the students, as well as student and staff amenities. A new general learning building was also constructed providing a further two learning spaces.

A number of students collaborated to enhance the school’s street presence, creating the school’s brand-new landscaped entrance with appropriate disability access, leading up to the Administration building.

Site gradient, slope and location near the wetlands presented various challenges, but the project team were able to manage the program in a way that handover of the Administration building was 6 months ahead of schedule, while the remainder of the project reached completion 3 months ahead of schedule. This meant the negative impacts of the construction works on the school’s day-to-day operations were minimised.
