In 2021, Cook Building completed the new build of a two-storey learning facility for Playford College, which provides learning spaces for STEM and Home Economics, as well as several general learning areas, a secondary reception and student breakout zone.

The architectural design of the building was quite specialised, with the finished build visually striking both externally and internally. The bespoke architectural detail required close coordination between Cook Building, our subcontractors, and the Architect to ensure the design intent was delivered to a high standard; during the early stages of the project, the team was able to establish a great relationship with the school and the Architect, which continues to this day.

Each classroom was built for a different purpose and final services, finishes and specifications were particular to each room inclusive of aesthetics, acoustics and thermal properties.

Before commencement, the school requested we occupy the smallest possible area due to the large number of students present – this introduced difficulties in establishing a compound that allowed for practical access to site, site huts, delivery and storage of materials and equipment, and lifting zones. However, through the team’s meticulous planning, a drop-off zone was created that ensured deliveries were executed safely and subcontractors had access to materials and equipment at all times.
